very interesting, a whole lake disappearing, maybe into an underground cave system. I know around here we have what are called shomberg ponds that are lined with clay. sometimes farmers want to deepen one of these ponds but as soon as you pierce the clay layer all the water drains away and it'll never hold any water again either, unless you fix the clay.
